How Can Kids Invent Help My Child?

By admin On April 5, 20111 Comment

Kids Invent! is the world’s leading provider of innovation based kids learning activities that stimulate the creative interests and abilities of children ages 7 – 15. We at California State University develop, publish and distribute learning activities for after school, in school, home school, summer, holiday and vacation camps, museum workshops, clubs and special event programs.

Kids Invent! Learning Activities foster learning experiences that are as engrossing and entertaining as they are educational. To achieve this unique blend of education, invention, and entrepreneurship Kids Invent! has adopted the learning model used by Thomas Edison and thousands of other inventors, and applied it to learning for kids.

Professors Ed Sobey and Timothy M. Stearns developed the first kids invent summer camp as an outreach program for California State University, Fresno, California. Their goal was to stimulate learning by having kids experience the creative and entrepreneurial excitement that drives inventors. Interest at other universities, science museums, and schools throughout the US led them to expand the curriculum and distribute it through a company, Kids Invent!

It can be of various durations of fun-filled, hands-on 2-hour, 4-hour, 1-day, 2-day, 3-day, 4-day or 5-day Workshop. KidsInvent Program utilizes the broad range of skill-sets needed for creative thinking, inventing and entrepreneurial enterprise to develop multiple facets of a child’s intelligence and psyche.

7 Ways Your Child Will Benefit

Kids Invent Programs equip children with impressive sets of skills, developing in them attitudes crucial to their success in any endeavor-academic and non-academic. These programs will:

Edward De Bono Calls For Companies To Appoint Chief Ideas Officers

By admin On October 8, 2011 No Comments

Have you heard of the post of Chief Innovation Officer? Well Edward De Bono created one called Chief Ideas Officer.

For companies to benefit from lateral thinking, they have to appoint a chief thinking officer, he said, who is on par with the chief financial and operations officers.

He said:

“The job will be about teaching the appropriate thinking skills to the workforce; about setting up a process whereby the ideas and innovations that emerge are heard and evaluated; and putting structures in place that take the selected innovations and act on them.
“You should not only be looking at new ideas, but also at ways of simplifying, of doing old things in a new way, more efficiently.”
He believes too many strategic decisions are driven by inputting data into a computer, and the resulting analysis sets corporate strategy.

“This is very dangerous, because unless you can look at the data in different ways you are locked into the old concepts. This is where a human’s interpretation and thought processes cannot be replaced by a machine.”

The ability to look at data in different ways is critical for leaders in today’s society. Dr de Bono believes that there is great power in asking “why not?” more often – why not do it this way? why not try that? “When someone says we cannot do this or that, you as leader should ask – why not?”

He explained:

“Creative people often put the emphasis on the novelty – this is a new idea, no-one has thought of it; and so on. Novelty is not a good currency – it is risk. But, if you focus on the benefits from the new ideas, people are more likely to agree to their implementation.”
However, new ideas alone are not sufficient. There needs to be some sort of structure, with someone responsible for making it happen – the chief ideas officer.
